Once we see your test results, we will be able to make an assessment of your ovarian function, which will allow us to design a treatment protocol that will optimize the outcome of your treatment since it will be customized for your specific needs. This tailored treatment program, along with a prescription will be sent to you accordingly.

One of the main questions we receive from patients is regarding the necessity of tests and screening. Patients who would like to select the sex of their baby due to family balancing purposes usually have no problems with conception and cannot be considered infertile. Naturally, patients usually ask us whether they would need to undergo testing and screening given that they have conceived successfully before and had healthy babies.

While this may be true, the tests and screening we ask for are not aimed at assessing your fertility. By knowing your hormone levels, we will have knowledge about your ovarian function, which will help us design your treatment protocol and identify the right dosage of medication, which will help us optimize the outcome of your treatment. You should also keep in mind that fertility is not a static concept. Fertility levels decline over time, and the fact that you have conceived before does not necessarily mean that you are still in the optimal fertility range. Therefore, fertility testing helps us understand where we stand in terms of your ovarian function, conditions of the uterus and sperm parameters. By understanding these factors, we can design treatment programs aimed at providing you with highest chances of success.

The first step in treatment is to see your local gynecologist for an ultrasound scan (sonogram). This is to make sure that the female partner has suitable uterine conditions that will allow for a successful pregnancy to take place and that there are no pathologies such as fibroids, polyps, free fluids etc. that can interfere with a pregnancy. Polyps and fibroids are mostly benign conditions but they may appear in a relatively short period of time, therefore, if you have not had a recent ultrasound scan at your gynecologist's office, having one done will be a good starting point. It is ideal that the female patient schedules her gynecologist visit on day 2 or day 3 of her menstrual period so that while the uterus is being investigated, the other hormone testing can also be carried out. For hormone testing to be accurate, it is important that the tests are done either on day 2 or day 3 of your menstrual period. The tests that we ask on your visit to your local doctor are as follows:

FSH - Follicle Stimulating Hormone

LH - Luteinizing Hormone

Estradiol

Prolactin

TSH - Thyroid Stimulating Hormone

AMH - Anti Mullerian Hormone

Traveling abroad for gender selection in Cyprus

You will be able to use your prescription online at one of the UK pharmacies we work with and have your medication delivered to your door. Once you receive your medication, you will be able to follow your treatment protocol, which will specify the dosage of medication and what needs to be done on a daily basis. While using your medication, we will ask that you visit a local doctor or a local scan center (we can recommend one) so that you can have two more ultrasound scans while using the medication. This allows us to monitor the progress and observe how your ovaries are responding to the medication. Once the preliminary work is done, you will need to come to Cyprus for about a 8/9 days. If you are able to stay a bit longer, say 10-12 days, it would be more convenient so that we could do some of the ultrasound scans here and get to monitor your progress more closely. Nevertheless, 8 days is the absolute minimum length of stay required.

For the male patient, we ask for a semen analysis test, which shows sperm parameters such as volume, count, motility, morphology, pH and round cell count. It will be important to see these results before proceeding with treatment because if we observe problems with the sperm parameters, we may need to prescribe additional supplementation or antibiotics in some cases.

Once you arrive in Cyprus, you will undergo infectious disease screening at our clinic. The infectious disease screening needs to be done by our own laboratory due to our safety protocols. These infectious disease tests are:

Tests and preparations before sex selection treatment

Our clinic is located in Nicosia, North Cyprus. The nearest airport to our clinic is the Ercan Airport. All flights into Ercan Airport do go through one of the cities in Turkey, so there are no direct flights. The most straightforward route into Ercan would be to fly through Istanbul. You can check out flight availability on Turkish Airlines / Atlas Global or Pegasus Airlines.

Another alternative is Larnaca Airport in the South. It is located approximately 60 km South of our clinic, and takes about one hour to travel. Sometimes, flights into Larnaca can be much cheaper depending on the season, so checking out both airports will make sense before booking your flights. We do provide complimentary airport transfers to and from both Ercan and Larnaca Airports.

Citizens of the EU, USA and Canada do not require a visa to either Ercan or Larnaca Airports. However, Larnaca, being a part of the EU jurisdiction requires a visa from other non-EU countries while Ercan Airport only requires a visa from African and Armenian nationals.
